In January 1967, James Euin "Nubbin" Crouch (at the age of 34) and his business partner Felton Courtney opened the doors of Courtney and Crouch Plumbing on South 13th. (The best we can tell, it was located in the little storage building just north of the old Bulldog Superette on Grand.) In September of the same year he bought out his partner and opened Crouch Plumbing & Heating at 107 South 14th Street.
In 1977, after graduating from the Denver Institute of Technology, Roy Crouch added heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration services to the company. For 30 years, Nubbin owned and operated the service business with his wife Dorothy and their children, Roy Crouch, Rita Derrick, and Randell Crouch.
In 1997, the business was incorporated as Crouch Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning, Inc. with Roy Crouch as President and he and his wife, Dianna, becoming co-owners. Roy directed the company's commercial construction as well as the air conditioning and refrigeration services. Nubbin continued to manage the residential/commercial plumbing services. In 1999, the company expanded its services throughout Eddy County with the purchase of Yeager Plumbing in Carlsbad. David Phillips has served as Office Manager for the Carlsbad location since 1999. Dianna Crouch served as an accountant and software consultant to Crouch PHAC, Inc. before joining the business in 2000 as Accounting and Operations Manager.
Roy and Dianna have owned and managed the company's operations together for more than 20 years.
Nubbin served as Vice President and Service Manager until his retirement in 2017. He continued to spend his time at the shop, helping employees and customers and visiting with friends until his passing in April of 2019.
